Writing as a duo can be funny at times - there’s really no standard formula or way of working.. it varies massively from tune to tune. Lights Go Down came from an extremely late studio session and, after pulling an all-nighter, the basis of the tune was down within 8 hours.
We go into most sessions with a clear mind, not really knowing what’s gonna come of it, however, we did know that we wanted to write a hook that was memorable and easy to sing-along to.. especially for playing out in clubs. Within the first 10 minutes, we were playing around with some chords and started humming the melody.. it didn’t take long after that to think up the lyrics and get the main idea down.
We’re really digging the 90s vibes just now and the return of the M1 piano sound, but feel that most songs doing it are all sampled and haven’t got their own vocals in there. Being writers as well as producers, we wanted to change that and bring something fresh to the table!
